Sunday 27th Of June 2004 Stevenston |
Arriving at 9.45am there was a good 15mph blowing directly onshore, the grass was the longest its been for a while but still buggy and boardable. The wind stayed pretty steady most of the day although it dropped off over lunchtime then picked up again later on. The sun also shined for most of the morning, only beginning to rain from 2.30 to 3.30 then again at about 4 until we left. Sunday 25th Of April 2004 Stevenston |
After a surprisingly foggy and windless start it was starting to look like waiting around was going to be pointless, but by about 10.30 the wind had picked up and it was almost possible to see a kite on the end of a set of lines! The wind cleared the fog away quite quickly and soon enough there were a bunch of people with kites up and buggys out rolling across the newly cut grass. A mention should go out to Danny who drove down for the day from Aberdeen bringing a BBQ and some food to feed the masses, although I'm not sure about his buying a landrover over a new kite ;-) Those There: Adam, Chris, Jim (the baker), Kev, Max, Myself, Steve, Stuart and Tom. Sunday 28th Of March 2004 Stevenston |
Sunday must've been one of the better days recently, slowly changing from 4mph up to 15mph and back down again most of the day making it fun for everyone, no matter how experianced they were or how big a kite they had. The beach was smooth in most places although there were a number of rivilets and wet patches, some deeper than thought :S. The Buggiers mainly used the beach early on until the wind swung around a bit too much and made it hard to get a good run along the beach when they joined the boarders and a few other buggiers who'd gone on the grass. Jim was trying out his 15m Peter Lynn Guerilla which proved to be a bit of fun and Bill Williamson was down checking out the beach and letting a few people have a go of his U-Turns. Sunday 1st Of Febuary 2004 Stevenston |
High wind and a lot of rain has been about average recently, and Sunday was no exception. The majority of people sat in their cars and occasionally had a go of a kite and buggy or board. The wind made fast accelleration simple for most people, a simple dive of the kite and shoot off across the grass, often sideways rather than forward though! The day wasn't really eventful, but everyone seemed to have fun laughing or getting dragged at 50+ across the soaked grass. Sunday 18th Of January 2004 Steveston |
Arriving to find some blustery winds of about 16-18mph most people put up something between 2m's and 4m's with a selection of buggies and boards people started rolling about whilst a lot of people sat around in cars hoping the wind would smooth out and the showers would clear. They didn't. As the day went on more and more people arrived to join the mahem that commenced, buggys sliding everywhere and boarders zooming everywhere. I had a few spills for once, but nothing that proved too bad! After about 2.30pm Brian, Dave, Danny, Kev, Myself, Stuart and Tom headed down onto the beach and had a run about on there until it became too wet and cold for most people, when we went back onto the grass, the wind slowly dropped and those that were still there when we left were considering taking out something larger. Sunday 4th Of January 2004 Steveston |
The first meet of the new year started off slowly with no wind at all, then within the space of 10mins picked up to a steady onshore 10mph, which suited most people fine to start off with, as the day went on it picked up more and more to about 16mph by later on in the day when it began to rain. The grass was slightly drier than previous times which made for some steadier boarding, while the beach was on top form surface wise, being hard and smooth all the way to Irvine. Jim aka Boater proved why people should wear helmets whilst buggying or boarding, colliding with some nice big boulders at 25mph and breaking his skate helmet into 3 peices, a quick trip to hosp. and a few grazed knuckles later he seems to be recovering well enough from the shoulder injury sustained. This was a great day for both buggiers and boarders, A few Blades and Frenzys, were up, the wind perfect for those flying them to get some nice speed and tricks on their boards, whilst the buggiers blasted about using PKD's, Quadrifoils, Radsail Pros, Little Devils and Bullets. Sunday 14th Of December 2003 Steveston |
Strong winds and wet grass made the day hectic for most people, Jim (the baker) tried a new trick called the one footed drag across the grass by his 3.5 Bullet, Cris of the Glasgow Loonies snapped 2 lines, Everyone else basically slid about, did big floaty jumps and made the most in between the occasional shower. Sunday 30th Of November 2003 Steveston |
Well this Sunday turned out to be a bit sparing on the number of those down - prosumably because of the St. Andrews kite fest. - but there was enough wind to keep those that were there satisfied. During the morning when only James + Jim, Jim, Mike, Kev and Tom we all ventured down onto the northern beach for the first time and discovered it to be a very nice patch of hard packed sand, divided by some nice small/thin rivelets (perfect for board jumping over), apart from one major one from land to sea cutting half the beach off :-( which we believe will only appear after heavy rain. In the afternoon most of the buggiers blasted across the soaking grass at high speed, touching 20-25mph from what I could tell, while I the only boarder did some measly jumps and some of my first one footers :D. There were no notable spills that i noticed, but the wet grass made flying quite risky in the way of making buggies slide sideways for over 20m! Another part of the Stevenston flying site we've only just explored more was the area of waste/rough land at the irvine side of where we park the cars, most definatly a great place for testing your off road skills on buggy or board, Tom found a great route along and around the less rough areas which could be ended by a blast up a steep climb then down a sharp drop to some nice mud! or by a run along flatter terrain which ended in a few gently kickers to give a bit of a lift. Sunday
16th Of November 2003
Steveston |
Well in
contrast to the time before the day started with no wind! throughout
the day the wind slowly and steadily picked up from the north until
by about 3pm it was about 10-12mph which, although wasn't enough for
anything spectacular to occur, created some enjoyment for those there.
James, Kev and Scott floated around under Blade'3s for most of the day
while Brian, Boater, Jim, Jim, Kev, Mike, Stef and Tom buggied about. |

Sunday,
2nd of November 2003 |
With the wind so strong it was time for the small kites to come out of the bag which meant most people were flying 1.4m's, 2m's, 2.5m's, 3.5m's and for those mad enough, 4m's. It definitely made it a good day, not having to work the kite, just being able to cruise in buggy or on board, some of the people decided to take a run or 5 along to Irvine and back which was made interesting by Boaters OBE and Mikes 1.7m Century flying over the barbed wire fence along the dunes when pulled out of Jims hands. Everyone held onto their hats (and kites) most of the day and only a short shower was experienced at about 1.30. Those there: Bring on next time, gotta get my frenzy out in some good winds (rather than chickening out!) By Kevin |

Sunday,
5th of October 2003 |
Back
to an average number of fliers down again this time, a nice steady 10mph
picking up to 20mph throughout the day which proved a bit much for the new
broken elbowed and broken fingered Chris (Mikes Bro in Law) after a pull
out the back of the buggy, Scots Kites Guy came across for the weekend,
Kev managed some floaty jumps off of the 8ft high natural kicker further
towards the town end, Stuart aka Snorbitz came down but due to a puncture
was unable to buggy, Graham pulled off some massive supermans with his Viper
later on in the day while everyone else packed up. Bill from Dri-Board appeared
and allowed me to test his 2 disked version with a kite which was great
fun and slidy, a number of other flyers were buggying, boarding and having
fun as usual.
See you next time! By Kevin |

Sunday,
21st of September 2003 |
Many fliers were down again, not quite as many as recent days but due to the rather pathetic forcast thats not surprising! The weather was pretty changeable throughout the day, and most gave up about 3ish. Plenty of buggiers and boarders milled around, most doing well and improving enormously, The first blade3 at Stevenston was brought down by Mike and was flown by quite a few people with varying opinions. The Next weekend out should be just as good :) By Kevin |

Sunday,
7th of September 2003 |
Sunday
must have had the largest contingent of kite flyers, buggiers, boarders
and jumpers at Stevenston so far. A few runs were made down the beach to
Irvine by a few of the buggiers while a majority of the people stayed up
on the grass, buggies and boards were all over the place, milling around
very like the pictures of Middle Wallop, the winds were definitely more
favorable than usual, after swinging round from off/along shore to onshore
at about 15mph by about 3pm, there were a few bruises caused by a certain
persons waterfoil (evil kite!) and plenty of boarding about being done.
Special thanks to Kirsti and the Falkirk flyers for the good food at the end of the day. Next time should hopefully be just as good so see you there!! List of those down: Way too many, In amongst the Irvine Flyers we had numerous Falkirk Flyers and Glasgow Flyers all coming across to enjoy the space that is (usually) available. By Kevin |

Sunday,
24th of August 2003 |
In the car and from reports from those already nearby it appeared that there was barely a whisper of the wind, but as we drove along the shoreline a Little Devil and a Bullet were sighted flying in the blue skys and it actually looked like it might be worth putting a kite out! As the day went on, with most of everyone's kit left lying around due to varying winds which seem to change direction slightly every now and then, making reaches in the buggy or on the board more interesting, as well as it picking up and giving you a burst of speed occasionally, Jim was spotted flying on a bar in preparation for his waterfoil trying to get moving on an ATB with Leah showing him how its done properly, even if it wasn't for long, GCM tried some very quick grabs in the air, Adrian, James, Stef, Kirsti, Stuart, Tom, Chris and Lynne all blasting around in their buggies and myself borrowing everyone elses equipment as usual, next time should be much better again due to us slowly creeping into the autumn of strong winds, though you wouldn't know it the amount of people leaving with sunburn :S. List of those down: Adrian, James, Jim, Kevin, Kirsty, Neil, Stef, Stuart and Tom as well as several visiting flyers, Graham aka GCM, the Derby Crew: Ceri, Chris, Leah and Lynne, as well as a few from Falkirk: Duncan, Kirsti, Sandy and Steven. Sunday,
17th of August 2003 |
At
10am it seemed like it might be a day of light winds, but by 10:30 it had
picked up to get a few kites in the air and soon it was enough for the boarders
to get jumping and the buggiers to get blasting across the grass.
Unfortunately after some stylish jumps and a bad landing Mark Somerville had to be taken to hospital with an injury (see forum). Three races were held during the day, with myself leading all, Neil coming 2nd in the first race, his best result so far, and Dave coming 2nd in the other 2 races. Results:
By about 5.30pm most people had gone, but soon after we had a visitor with a Parastorm buggy who jumped with it until about 8.45pm when he finally left. during the day there was a massive turnout with the top of the grass lined with over 15 cars: Andy, Dave, Jacqueline, James, Kevin, Mark, Mike, Neil, Shaz, Stef, Stevie, Stuart and Tom. Sunday,
3rd of August 2003 |
Well
there were a bunch of us there around 11ish, some there for hours already,
some just arrived, The wind was reasonable at about 10ish, then slowly and
depressingly dropped to nearly nothing by about 1pm which saw almost everyone
sitting on the ground chatting and having a refreshing drink, Neil and Mike
showed off their new buggies, as well as other things happening occasionally,
we also had a few laughs when people thought the wind had picked up and
ran for their kite, only to discover after a few times of taking off that
it had dropped again.
As always after half of the people had gone the wind slowly picked up at about 4.30pm to about 10mph and this provided some fun for those who were able to stay. Those there included: Dave, Jacqueline, Jim, Kevin, Mark, Mike, Neil, Shaz, Stef, Stevie, Stuart, Tom as well as others I've probably forgotten, this heat has erased my memory. By Kevin |

20th of July 2003 |
The
weather was one of the strangest we've had for a long time, frequent squally
showers and spells of sunshine in amongst varying winds of 5mph to 25mph!
Before the main showers started we organised a few fun races around a course on the grass in which most of the buggiers had a go and all managed the 4 laps set. A fairly large number of flyers turned up for such weather, Jacqueline, Jim, John, Kevin, Mark, Neil, Stef, Stevie, Stuart, Tel and probably others I can't remember. By Kevin |

Sunday,
6th of July 2003 |
The
weather reports said there would be no wind BBC reported at 3-5mph. So I
guess that kept a few of us away. For those who showed (Mike, Stevie, Stuart,
Me, [new boy Jim], Neil, Stevie, Barry and a few others, the weather was
pretty damn close to perfect!! You could quite happily buggy with a 3m.
Mike, Stuart and a few others had a go down on the beach and retreated to
the grassy area with the rest of us as the tide came in. Rain started around
3ish but on the whole it would have been a very nice day for those with
their equipment with them. My curse continues however since I believed
the weather men (for the last time I might say!) and left most of my gear
in Glasgow. GUTTED!

The
curse continues!
Sundays wind claimed a fairly steady 10mph the ground started dry and the rain stayed off. It could have been so wonderful. However the East wind held no significant power. A few people managed to buggy a bit but us learners struggled to make a 3m drag you more than 10 feet. By four o'clock Adrian decided to put the 7.2m Blade up, to no avail. there was just enough wind to lift him off the ground on to his feet. A couple of the chaps did manage to get some good jumps in with a 4.9m blade. But all in a good turn out for a fairly disappointing day. Those present Adrian, Mike, Stevie, Barry, Ian, me and a few others I didn't recognise immediately. Hope you guys had more luck down in Hoylake By Andy |

SPKA Meeting+Visit, |
Saturday was a very busy day with at least 15 kites, buggys and boards, the grass and beach were both used, and no incidents occured, there were really too many to count, and at the end of the day once most had go we fired up a BBQ (Thanks to Stuart and Danny) and had some burgers and sausages. Sunday really depressed everyone being wet and windless, but eventually those who stayed through it all managed to try out a 3.5 Razor and 3.5 Century in buggys which wasn't so bad. Theres

Sunday
11th of May 2003, |
The
wind blew smoothly from the south west as the cars rolled up, doors popped
open and the kit was unpacked from them. To start off the day Neil, Stuart
and Tom took a nice quick run the 2.5 miles to Irvine then an even quicker
run back. Kevin floated with joy as he got his new Frenzy into the air and
managed some nice jumps and grabs, Tel appeared for a while with his new
4m Buster, Dave got his 2m and buggy out for some fun, Mike stayed on the
grass for a while then moved down onto the beach and buggied around for
the rest of the day, Steve had his board and buggy out speeding along with
his Bullet in the buggy and on his board and with that, a pilots briefing
was called and the race was told, a long reach out to the 1st marker, round
it for an upwind leg to get to the 2nd marker then a fast blast back towards
the car park end to avoid the rocks and get a nice sharp turn on the final
marker to start it all again for a total of 5 laps. All races were clean
cut, no kites getting chopped out of the sky, though Stuart and Dave diced
for position in the 2nd race and Dave and Kevin put on a great show vying
for the lead with kites down low, trying not to hit each other as well as
trying to keep the kites working for them, in the end Kevin squashed Dave's
lead and took home victory for all 3 races like Dave (Who claimed a sore
back after an OBE last Wednesday) did last time out, so a fierce battle
is brewing in the first Irvine Flyers Club Class league with Kevin and Dave
struggling to beat each other, Stuart hovering in the middle and Tom and
Neil trying to prove which brothers going to beat the other. At the end
of the day Dave Kevin, Neil, Stef, Stuart and Tom took a friendly run along
to Irvine and back taking advantage of the best winds we've had for a long
time and causing the only accident of the day, Stef's OBE leaving him with
a bit of blood on his chin.
The Results for the racing were as followed:

Sunday
27th of April 2003, |
Amongst
the runs to hide under the shelter of bushes from the rain I think I can
say that everyone had a great day. Adrian buggied around on the beach later
and untangled his lines, Dave sped around on the grass and on the beach
while he was there and perfected his tack turns, Derek flew around the grass
on his Flexi2001 with his 3.5 Bullet, Gary boarded a bit and set up his
3m 'Bee on a bar, Kevin boarded and buggied sliding around on the grass
and showing the freestylers how its done, Neil buggied with his 4m quite
fast and decided to go off-road and off buggy into a gorsh bush, which climaxed
in his rather blood covered nose and slightly broken helmet! Stef spent
most of his time speeding over the sand on his buggy, Steve boarded and
buggied around like a pro, Stuart spent most of his time chasing Kevins
tail and trying to catch him, Tracey sat in any spare buggy and relaxed
while Tom turned into his usual orange blur in amongst the grass and sand.
After about 2pm we moved down to the beach and then Dave, Kevin, Neil, Stuart
and Tom all made the 5 or so miles to Irvine and back on buggys, then we
got into the serious stuff, Buggy Racing, the results of which proved interesting
to say the least, check out the results:

Meet |
Although
several flyers where at St Andrews gaining there Pilot's Licenses there
was still a good turn out at Irvine. Mike, Stevie Claire, John, Ian, Max,
Stuart, Davy and Ronnie to name but a few. Strong winds meant that small
kites where the order of the day. Mainly Brontos and Busters . John did
have a shot with his Viper, was taken from his buggy and landed on Mike
some 10 foot away. and Strong
Winds on both days, only after a bit of coaxing on the Saturday, but one
good thing is that we now have 5 members who now have Club Class Licenses
and are now able to race! (Dave, Kevin, Neil, Stuart + Tom) so expect
some high ranking places in any races we're at! |

| Sunday 16th of March 2003 | A large number turned up for the rather bright but light winded day, It was a day for big kites and light wind toys, not to mention the odd downhill bombing session on board and in buggy, Mike ruled the day with his triple front flip into blind when he did a bit of downhilling ;-). Adrian, Andy, Ian, John, Kevin, Kirsty, Max, Mike, Steve, Stevie, Stuart, Tom, and Tracey were there and I think most enjoyed the charms of the 7.2m Blade for boarding and scudding. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 2nd of March 2003 | Well I bet that all you who didn't fly were kicking yourselves for not going out, it has got to have been one of the better days we get each year in the way of wind and weather, the wind was quite steady at about 13-16mph which was nice for the few that turned up, Adrian, Dave, Gary, Kevin, Shaz, Stuart and Tom, I'm not going to tell you about the 'incident' as I'm sure most of you will find out soon enough if you haven't already, cant forget to mention that Adrian went up the hill, and the buggy decided to run down onto the road, while the kite flew for a bit and dropped. We even got onto the nice smooth beach where we had some good runs right along due to the onshore winds. See you next time people. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 17th of February 2003 | Well The whole day was gusty from 2mph to 16mph, and It must've been one of the busiest days we've had for a while, with Adrian, Barry, Dave, Darren, John, Kirsty, Kevin, Neil, Steve, Stuart, Tom and Tracey there, check out the gallery page for movies and pictures as there was a lot of pictures taken! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 2nd of February 2003 | Hmm, yeah...... a few people went down but at different times, no one flew. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 19th of January 2003 | It looks like we're cursed at the moment, not much wind until after 2pm when it suddenly picked up to about 6mph which was enough for some of us to get moving, the beach was nice and smooth but only useable for the last 20mins which some people though wasn't worth it and stayed on the grass. there were plenty of us there, Adrian, Dave, Kevin, Mike, Neil, Stevie (for a short time), Stuart, Tel, Tom. Hoping for more wind next time! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 5th of January 2003 | Well we thought last weekend had light winds! there was a max of 4mph which didn't do much, but Adrian, Kevin, Mike, Stuart, Tom were there, even Neil who made his first appearance for at least 2 months !!! Adrian tried mountainboarding for the first time and has asked me to mention his ' jump ' . | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 29th of December 2002 | There wasn't much wind, only about 8mph max, but the group of us that were there had fun buggying, boarding and just generally scudding and jumping about, Kevin boarded around with his 6.4 doing some small jumps, Stevie scudded around and let others use his 3m Radsail for a while, Stuart buggied around and tried not to fall out, Tom Buggied around a bit then helped Caron and Mel get to grips with their new 2.4m Radsail, Mark and Jacqueline were also there flying a symphony and a delta wing. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 22nd of December 2002 | Is it worth a report?!, We got there (Kevin, Mike, Stuart, Tom), no wind, waited around a bit played with the frisbee until about 12.30 then we decided it wasn't worth waiting and went home. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 8th of December 2002 | A lot of us turned up again, Dave, Kevin, Kirsty, Mike, Stu, Tel, Tom were all there, Dave buggied around and tried jumping with his 4.9m, Kevin carried on boarding with his usual lack of skill and finesse, Kirsty flew her 2m Firebee and then watched Stu up on 2 wheels and falling out of Toms buggy. Tel spent most of his time flying his delta wing then used his 1.8m NPW. Mike zoomed around in his V-Max when Kevin wasn't away with it and Tom flew and buggied on and off most of the day. The winds were quite choppy but we all managed to stay on our feet, most of the time. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 24th of November | We had a good time even though there were few people there: Graham, Kevin, Stuart, Tom and Stevie dropped in later in the day and was persuaded to have a go of Kevins 6.4m Blade2 when Graham had let other people use it (only joking feel free to use it again). See you all next time. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 10th of November | Well the usual people were down again, Dave, Kevin, Mike, Shaz, Stevie, Stuart, Tom and a new guy called Gary. Dave dunked his 4.9m Blade2 in the water, Kevin got soaked while boarding and 2 Wheeling Mikes V-Max with wide axel, Mike buggied a bit with his 3m firebee, Shaz flew her Proteam 8, while Stevie untangled his lines while Stuart giving us plenty of laughs as he practiced 360s Up and over in Stevie's buggy, and Tom just buggied about at his usual high speed. There was plenty of wind and soaking grass for everyone throughout the day, near to the end Kevin decided to try some tethered flying with his 3.3m Blade1 which is now awaiting repair after 3 bridles and a line snapped on take off. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 3rd of November | Well this was a last minute meeting of some of the fliers, Dave, Kevin, Mike, Stevie, Stuart, Tel and Tom it was another day like last week where there was plenty of wind, thrills and spills, Kevin was dragged across the grass by a spinning kite, Dave's buggy decided it didn't like him and threw him out, causing him to let his kite spin like a helicopter on the roadway which was quickly retrieved, Stu was out with his 3m Firebee again trying to tame it which he managed most of the time, Tom, Stevie and Dave were doing some good runs on their buggies while Kevin practiced his mountainboard jumping, I'm sure most of us will be looking forward to next weekend and more fits of laughter. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 27th of October | Well if we've been waiting for wind for the last few months we finally got some, and lots of it we were yanked all over the place, after around lunch time Adrian, Dave, Kevin, Stevie, Stuart, Tom were all there, most of us had a good laugh using Stu's new 3m Firebee, Dave took some video clips of the thrills and spills which we will hopefully get on the site soon. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 13th of October (One Sky One World Day) | The wind at Ettrick Bay was not the strongest we have known but it was enough to get us all moving at one point or another, there were photographers down from the local paper "The Buteman" and the tourist board, Graham, Kevin, Mike, Neil and Tom enjoyed the hard packed sand beach with deep rivulets of water to splash into, (those who were there will be waiting for the "you know what" to be mentioned so here it is) Mike decided that he didn't like his 3.3m Blade and thought that it needed drying out and so he put it onto the top of the ship wreck to "dry out" and so the group had to pull together and get it down, it was eventually recovered much to the enjoyment of the spectators which lined the bay with there cars. We are all now wondering where the next place mike'll hang out his blade to dry will be so we can get a photo of it!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 29th of September | This was the SPKA AGM which took up the morning, but after a quick drive and some lunch we got to the beach which was very busy with kites, buggies and boards. Alex, Bill, Darren, Joann, Kevin, Mary, Neil and Tom were there, we all had some good fun with the good if slightly gusty winds, Kevin's buggy broke almost before he started and forced him onto Neil's board for the rest of the day on which he did powerslides and turns while Darren was jumping and scudding with his 4m Blade and his 2m Firebee, Tom and Alex were buggying with their Quadrifoil XL's while Neil was flying along in his buggy with his 4.9 Blade | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Saturday and Sunday 14th and 15th of September | Well the wind wasn't there on Saturday or Sunday, A group of us were gathering on Saturday and we had one buggy race with Kevin, Neil, Paul and Tom, which Kevin won, there was hardly enough wind for one race never mind the many that were planned and so the event just wasn't meant to be, we just sat around and waited for the wind, we thought, there's always tomorrow, well there was, but no wind again, the best way to describe the wind was an onshore movement of air, so we had a good laugh, Kevin and Tel lost against Neil, Tom and Mike at football (10-1), though they were facing cheating players Kevin and Tel performed admirably, never giving up when tripped or held back, we threw the Frisbee about for a while and even did some mountain board jousting, where one person pulls the other stands on the board and when the boarders meet they attempt to get the opponent off the board, the jousting grand finale was Mikes attempt at swimming when he tried to push Kevin into the water but ended up in it himself. Thanks to Bill for organizing the racing and Mike and Janet for the delicious BBQ on Saturday night. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 1st of September | Well this has got to have been the best day at Irvine for a long time, Dave, Bill, Jacqueline, Joann, Graham, Kevin, Mark, Neil, Shaz and Tom were all there, buggying boarding scudding and jumping. Mark took a crazy turn when he decided he didn't like his psycho and decided to run into it at high speed with his mountain-board sending him cart wheeling head over heels and his kite to drop into the water. Bill got down on the ground and took some great photos from a few feet away as we sped past. (pictures in the gallery) the wind was perfect for us with 12-18mph onshore winds from when we got there to when we left. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Saturday 24th of August | Well Alex, Bill, Darren, Jacqueline, Joann, Kevin, Mark, Neil and Tom, were all out enjoying the sun the wind and the small bit of rain we had, oh I've suddenly realized, There was No wind! so as in the Irvine flyers style we left the kites for people to have a look and got the boards and buggies out to have some no-wind downhill racing. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 18th of August | Rain Rain Rain was what we had, the wind was mainly 2mph with 5-7mph at around 2.30pm, so we just sat around waiting as usual, not really much else to say though. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sun 4th of August 2002 | Since low tide was later on in the day than usual we were all down at the beach a bit later, during the morning the wind slowly built up until it reached around 8-10mph, enough for us all to get buggying, there were a total of 6 buggies and 2 m-boards there today and all were being used as much as possible, a number of buggies were brand new and being used for the first time making some interesting "techniques" shown, after around 2.30pm the wind began to slowly die down again. the sun stayed in view all day so it was a nice bright day with plenty of talking, flying, buggying and boarding. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sat/Sun 6th/7th of July 2002 | Both days were dry but almost windless, all the racers were using the biggest kites they had to get round the course, racing on Saturday was slow but on Sunday it was cancelled due to the phrase we all love to hate, "no wind" and so everyone buggied or tried to buggy for the rest of the day, Kevin and Tom left at around 1pm but we have just found out that the wind picked up at 4pm! Oh well there's always the World Championships in September. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 30th of June 2002 | Wet and windy is probably the best way to describe the day, the rain didn't stop at any point though the wind picked up from about 10mph to 18/20mph almost directly onshore after being along from slightly north-west Darren and Kevin were mountainboarding while Tom and Alex were flying up and down the beach on buggies. The banner arrived but had to be sent back due to the producers putting in eyelets instead of a long sleeve to go over the pole so we'll need to wait for a while longer before it flutters in the wind. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday 16th of June 2002 | People were few and far between perfect for being pulled out the buggy, through the water and body dragging for another 3m, Kevin and Mike did a run all the length of the beach to discover it was 2.91miles long from the parking area to the rocks right down by ferry terminal wind was about 8-12mph most of the day, it was bright but not sunny, plenty of cloud and no rain until packing up time, only Gary, Kevin, Mike and Tom were down but it was still great fun, Kevin providing the humour by 2wheeling too slow in the water and falling out flat on his face! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sat/Sun 1st/2nd of June 2002, + Mon 3rd | That was fun, Saturday saw the sun shining and the wind blowing at about 10-12mph perfect for the gang, Kevin, Tom, Neil, Mike and Alex to get in a bit of buggying, Sunday came and it was pouring from the second we got there, Mike, Alex and Neil went home at around 11am while Kevin and tom stayed to fly on Monday, It was a great day after the rain went and we buggied until about 3pm when we had to begin the long drive home the beach was dry on Saturday and Sunday though on Monday there was a lot of surface water to make a nice large splash as we sped through it at around 20-25mph. Kevin managed to get up on 2 wheels quite often with the new front end on his buggy. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday the 19th of May 2002 | Wow, What a wind, there was nothing bigger than a 4.9 up, Neil and Darren were both lifted onto the dunes with 4m's Darren let go but Neil held on and hit a marker post!, This time most of the kites were on the ground because there was slightly too much wind, even the 1.8 Nasa was left lying down after Tel tried body surfing on the sand for 50m with it, Top speed recorded was 34mph by Neil, though Kevin did some impressive 2 wheeling while Iain did some stylish power slides and 180's, later in the day Stu was flying back and forth on his buggy while everyone else packed up and when I checked xcweather it showed 24mph gusting to 37! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday the 12th of May 2002 | There were a few of us down, Kevin, Neil, Tom, Mike, David, Iain, Bill and Joann, Neil tried out his m-board for the first time (stand well back when you see him on it) There wasn't much wind and therefore all the kites were on the ground most of the day. Oh well there's always next week !!!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday the 5th of May 2002 | There were a few of us there, Kevin, Neil, Mike, Steve, Tom, Tel, David, Alex, Mary, Mark + Others, the wind was constant all day, if you can call it a "wind", I managed to get onto 2 wheels, Sand Dancer flipped the buggy (again), There was a stack of 5 6ft flexi's up We met another flyer with a Super10 and another with a pink and white foil of some kind. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
