Stranraer Away Weekend
This was a great success. The beach at Sandhead could only be made better if it had been larger, even so its bigger than Stevenston and Irvine width wise and big enough to hold some reasonable sized races so watch this place as a future venue.
The weekend really began on the Saturday, however people arrived Friday night, Jim, Grant (the local), Myself and Tom getting some buggying done during the afternoon, with some nice offshore winds which weren't too gusty, slowly dropping off until later but it allowed us to try the beach out and see what sort of variation in conditions there is there.
Saturday morning arrived with Mike, James and Jim arriving and pitching up nearby and getting the buggys out and ready for another afternoon and evening of buggying. We got down onto the beach about 1pm and stayed on until about 6.30pm. Scott and Ross arrived halfway through the day with their boards but gave up because the sand wasn't quite hard enough and winds were just a bit lumpy for their kites, however they were both coaxed into Mikes buggy and were soon buggying about. Scott recording the highest speed of the day at 31.8mph on Mikes badly calibrated speedo ;-). Stef and Brian then arrived and buggied around for a while. I set up a 3 point course for a few races. The 'Gimp' class as it was fondly named, included Grant, James, Jim, Jim, Ross And Scott. The latter two chickening out before it even started. The so called 'Pro' class containted Brian, Mike, Myself, Stef and Tom.
Results are as follows:

Saturday night saw Chris and Kev arriving about 9.30pm and joining the others drinking in the club until 11.30pm.
Sunday had an early start scheduled, most up before 7am and on the beach before 7.20am to catch the earlier low tide. About an hours worth was gained from the beach before low winds and the incoming tide persuaded those not staying Sunday night to head home then. During the afternoon the wind blew strongly and the rain came in about 4.30pm, however the beach was still pretty clear so another 2 hours were spent on the beach along with Grant and his mate Steve who were also relishing the high winds. That night the glowsticks were put onto the Rev and Delta wings we had with us and it was a pretty cool sight seeing these strange bands of light flying through the air.
Monday was the end of the long weekend for us, the buggies were taken apart and camper folded up, leaving the site at about 12.30pm.
